CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY

GENERAL JEWELLERY CARE

The pieces you have purchased from me are made to be displayed & worn. The metals used  will naturally tarnish over time which is part of their charm however, from time to time, particularly with bright silver, you may wish to clean your pieces. This should be done gently with a small amount of liquid soap & soft brush in warm water then carefully dried with a soft cloth. You may also use a silver polishing cloth for bright silver pieces only.

To prevent your jewellery from this tarnishing process store it away from natural sunlight, excess moisture and heat. They can be stored in a tarnish resistant pouch or jewellery box.  All my pieces come wrapped in black tissue paper in their own box for this purpose but will still benefit from cleaning from time to time.

Caring for Blackened Silver

Blackened silver is produced by speeding up and intensifying the natural tarnishing process. Therefore it is imperative that you do not use silver dip or commercial products of any kind including silver polishing cloths as this will remove the patina and entirely change the look of your piece.

Instead, use warm soupy water and a soft brush taking care to dry straight away with a soft cloth. Please note that with wear, the depth of blackness will change over time.

If you have purchased a piece of blackened silver with gold flashes, it is possible to lift the gold pins individually and very gently buff them with a soft cloth, taking extreme care not to bend the pin.
